Suspect Charged with Battery for Punching Man over Stolen Bike
LaGrange Police have charged a man with Battery for allegedly attacking another man for knowing who stole his bike.
Early Tuesday morning, about 1:15 a.m., officers took a walk-in report at the LaGrange Department in reference to an assault that reportedly occurred at Lafayette Square.
Police met with the victim, who stated he was on Lafayette Square around 1 a.m., when an unknown male approached him regarding his bicycle being stolen.
The victim advised that the subject ran up to him and stated, “You know who stole my bike.” The subject then reportedly began punching him and pushed him to the ground. Police say the victim had visible injuries to his face as a result of the incident. Paramedics were called to provide medical care, but he refused transport to the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.
Officers later reviewed security video from Lafayette Square and observed an unknown black male wearing a red hat, and grey and black jacket approach the victim. The male began speaking with the victim and shortly afterwards began to punch him after knocking him to the ground.
The suspect was then seen leaving the area on foot toward Bull Street. Police later located a male matching the suspect seen on the video on Main Street.
The suspect, David Lee Brown, initially only told police that he had talked to the victim regarding his bike being stolen, but when confronted about the video he admitted to attacking him. Brown stated he hit the victim, due to him knowing who stole his bicycle.
As a result of the investigation, Brown, age 61, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Battery.
Brown was later released from the Troup County Jail on bond.
