Kathy Carlisle

Mrs. Kathy Reynolds Carlisle, 68, of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Carlisle was born January 3, 1952, in Newnan, daughter of the late Harold Loyd Reynolds and Helen Carroll Reynolds. A lifelong resident of Hogansville, she served as secretary for a number of years at Hogansville Primary School, was Methodist by faith, was a longtime Girl Scout leader, and was a former member of the Hogansville Pilot Club. She loved crafts and flower arranging and enjoyed trips to Biloxi. Survivors include her daughter, Kristy Carlisle of Hogansville; son, Kevin and Jennifer Carlisle of Sharpsburg; brother, Lamar Reynolds of Hogansville; grandson, Logan Carlisle of Hogansville; and her devoted shih tzu, Skylar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry F. Carlisle, and her brother, Michael Reynolds. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with interment in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday night.

Herman Dunn, Jr.

Mr. Herman Edward Dunn, Jr., age 75 of LaGrange, passed away on October 8, 2020. Mr. Dunn was born on October 29, 1944 in LaGrange to the late Herman Edward Dunn, Sr. and Adrian Jones Dunn. Mr. Dunn graduated from Troup County High School and worked for many years at and retired from CSX Railroad. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Turner Dunn; children, Richard Dunn, Tammy Chaney (James) and Dusty Dunn (Misty); brother, Charles Dunn (Kaye); grandchildren, Abbie Creed (Aaron), Tyler Baker, Ivy Dunn and Savannah Dunn; great grandchildren, Kelsie Creed and Karlie Creed; extended family and friends. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Family and friends will assemble at the graveside. The family will receive friends after to service at the family home, 907 Wheelis Way in LaGrange. Maxine Smith Brown

Maxine Smith Brown, age 92, of LaGrange, passed away on October 9, 2020. She was born on April 20, 1928 to the late Ezra Smith and Lottie Gay Smith in Hazlehurst, Georgia. She worked with Bell South for 35 years before her retirement. She was a long standing member of Western Heights Baptist Church. Maxine loved to garden and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Smith, Herbert Smith and Billy Smith; sisters, Ruth Newman, Hilda Smith, and Sarah McDowell. Survivors include her son, Larry Brown (Susie); daughter, Lisa Lee (Jeff); grandchildren, Kendra Jeter (Scott), Kathryn Lee, Holle Lewis (Sam III), Whit Brown; great grandchildren, Jack Jeter, Lylah Kate Jeter, Sam Lewis IV, Wesley Lewis; as well as extended family and friends. The family had a graveside service at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Restlawn Memory Gardens where Rev. Don Ellison officiated. Lousie Jewel Childs Jeter

Louise Jewel Childs Jeter, age 76, of LaGrange, passed away on October 10, 2020. She was born on June 2, 1944 to the late Charles Hurston Childs and Lavida Yates Childs in Troup County, GA. Mrs. Jeter was a registered nurse and later a teacher at Troup Tech. She was also a Certified Lay Speaker. Survivors include her husband, Wilbur Jeter; son, Tommy Jeter (Brenda); daughter, Mary Sanden; sisters, Eloise Maddox (Sherry); Joyce George; and Martha Purser (Ray); eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; extended family and friends. Family had visitation from 10:00 – 12:00 on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand. Funeral service began at 12:00 PM at the funeral home where Pastor Tommy Jeter and Pastor Brad Thompson officiated. Interment followed at Restlawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Louise Jeter to WellStar West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Rd, LaGrange, GA 30240.

Betty Jean Towns Simpson

Mrs. Betty Jean Towns Simpson was born May 20, 1949 to Elizabeth Towns Ector. God called her Home on Saturday, October 3, 2020. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Quinton Lamar Simpson; granddaughter, Totshianna Houston; and grandmother, Emma Lou Towns Allen. At an early age, she attended Arbor Grove Baptist Church and St. James A. M. E. Church. She attended East Depot High School where she excelled on the Track and Basketball Teams. Upon moving to Atlanta, Georgia; she united with Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church where she served faithfully until she retired and returned home to LaGrange, Georgia. She was employed at the Playtex Plant and retired from Colonial Bakery Company in Atlanta, Georgia. Betty was a kind, gentle spirit who always extended a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. She has a special love for family and will always be remembered for her caring qualities. She leaves to cherish her memories, six siblings:  Clayton T. (Virginia) Towns, College Park, GA; Jeanette Towns (Arthur) Williams, Covington, GA; Carl Eugene Towns, LaGrange, GA; Sue Ellen Robinson, Atlanta, GA; Tommy Ector, Pine Mountain, GA; and Jarvis (Juanita) Ector, LaGrange, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
