Higgins at Hunter Allen Myhand

Horace W. Thomas, Sr.

Horace W. Thomas Sr., of LaGrange, passed away at the blessed age of 95, on October 12, 2020 at Hospice LaGrange.  He was born on July 12, 1925 to the late Ezra Alexander Thomas and Thelma Folds Thomas Brand.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lillian Oneida “Nita” Thomas; his son, James “Jamie” Eugene Thomas; and his siblings, Helen Thomas, James Thomas, and Merlin “Buck” Thomas.  Mr. Thomas proudly served our country in the United States Army serving in WWII. He was the recipient of the Gold Star and the Purple Heart. He retired from Hawkins Oil Co. after more than 40 years. He loved attending his home church, Sonrise Baptist (formerly, Mt. Calvary Baptist) where he was a longtime member. He enjoyed spending time at the Active Life Senior center where he often won prizes playing games with other seniors.  Mr. Horace W. Thomas Sr. is survived by his sons, Horace W. Thomas Jr. (Deborah) and Vestal W. Thomas (Martha); his daughter, LeeAnn Mullis (Jarod); his siblings, Nellie Meadows, Harold “Pete” Thomas (Shirley), and Argle Thomas (Debra); his grandchildren, Kyle, Brian (Jessica), Jeremy, Alyssa, Callie, Caleb, Lily, Mackenzie, and Lorrie; his great grandchildren, Braxton, Jackson, Megan, and Julia; his great-great grandchild, Adriel; and many other family and friends. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. The celebration of life service will be held at Sonrise Baptist Church in LaGrange on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2 p.m.  The family will receive friends at the church from noon until service time on Saturday.  The committal service will directly follow the funeral and will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange.

 

Mary Hendricks Anderson

Mary Hendricks Anderson, of LaGrange, passed away on October 13, 2020. She was born in Mountville, Georgia to the late J.P. Hendricks and Ruth Elizabeth Cooper Hendricks on September 10, 1932. She retired from Dunson Mill and later retired from the McDonald’s on Commerce after 9 years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Lawrence “Cooter” Harper; daughter, JoAnn McCain; brothers, James Hendricks, Herman Hendricks, Billy Hendricks; and sister, Polly Pressley. Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Parker (Mark); Cindy Carpenter (Gary); sister, Anne Swinford; grandchildren, Mike Bonner, Tassie Zellner (Ryan), April Hope Wright, Larry Lawrence Wright (Edy), David Parker (Christy), Greg Parker (Crystal); several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Family will have visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday October 16, 2020 at the funeral home with Pastor Jody Mitchell fooiciating. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Tommy Wayne Bailey

Mr. Tommy Wayne Bailey, of LaGrange, passed away on Ocotber 12, 2020. He was born in LaGrange to Frances Sanders and the late Charles Bailey Jr. on January 6, 1966. In addition to his father, Mr. Bailey is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Bailey Sr., Ruth Bailey, Loyd Holley, and Lila Holley. Mr. Tommy Wayne Bailey is survived by his mother, Frances Sanders; his step-father, Bobby Sanders; his step-siblings, Tony Sanders and Pamela Freeman (Keith); his aunts, Dale B. Brown and Gloria Dixson; his several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. The funeral service was held at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. Pastor Anthony Hovey officiated the service.

James A. “Buddy” McAlister

Mr. James Allen “Buddy” McAlister, 73, of Hogansville, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Cancer Treatment Center of America in Newnan. Mr. McAlister was born July 12, 1947, in Russellville, Arkansas, son of the late James Scott McAlister and Mary Diana McAlister. A resident of Georgia since 1985, he retired as a project scheduler for Wheelabrator after more than thirty years of service. His family was the most important part of his life, but he was also an avid bowler and was a certified bowling coach and director for youth leagues. Survivors include his wife, Marsha McAlister of Hogansville; his children, Tim McAlister of Little Rock, AR, Shala and David McCarty of LaGrange, Melissa Hodge of Perryville, AR, Richard Jolly of Bowdon, Shane Jolly of Lanett, AL; a number of grandchildren, including Kourtnie McCarty, David A. McCarty, Conner McAlister, Ben McAlister; and great-grandchildren, Kenslie, Brylie, Kylie, and Wyatt McCarty. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 17, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Terry Rainwater will officiate interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Friday night.

Kristin H. Cohn

Kristin H. Cohn was born on October 6, 1988 and passed away on October 9, 2020 in Vinemont, Alabama and is under the care of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on October 17, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Mother’s Residence, 117A Whitaker Street, LaGrange, Georgia.
