Okyun Kim Copeland

Okyun Kim Copeland, 82, a LaGrange resident for over 15 years, peacefully passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Pruitt Health of Greenville, GA. “Mrs. Kim” as she was affectionately known, was born October 15, 1937 in Pusan, South Korea. After being married in South Korea, she came to the United States in 1962 and became a citizen. She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square and owned several restaurants and barber shops. In addition to family members in Korea, she is preceded in death by her late husband, Lawrence Keith Copeland. Mrs. Kim is survived by her first husband, SGM Luis G. Cavazos; daughter, Sylvia Cavazos; sons, Fernando Cavazos, Ricardo Cavazos and Rolando Cavazos; granddaughter, Brittney Dee Cavazos; other relatives and friends. The Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am on Wednesday, October 21, 2020  at First Baptist Church on the Square with Pastor Cade Farris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Lewis “Dick” Everett Birdyshaw

Mr. Lewis “Dick” Everett Birdyshaw, age 82, passed away on October 10, 2020.  He was born in Roanoke, Alabama to the late Lum and Arbell Birdyshaw on August 10, 1938.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Birdyshaw is preceded in death by his sister in law, Joyce Elizabeth Birdyshaw. Mr. Lewis “Dick” Everett Birdyshaw is survived by his brother, Corben “Ben” Birdyshaw; his nephew, Alan D. Birdyshaw and his wife Donna; his niece, Brenda Birdyshaw; his great nieces and nephews, Nikki and Eric Womble, Jennifer and David Cochran, Clay and Miranda Birdyshaw, Jim and Lindsay McClendon, and Wes and Leda McClendon; his several great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family; his many special friends including Gayle and Bob Oliver and Ruth Chambers.  Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. The family will receive friends at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter-Allen-Myhand on Sunday, October 18, 2020 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.  The funeral service will directly follow the visitation hour and will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.  Pastor S.T. Janey will officiate the service.

 

Roger Freddie Laster

Roger Freddie Laster, of LaGrange, passed away on October 12, 2020. He was born on September 14, 1939 to the late Willie Laster and Frances Daniel Laster in Heard County, GA. He served his country in the United States Air Force. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Amason Laster; brothers, Larry Laster and Harold Laster. Survivors include his son, Lee Laster (Carla); daughter, Lynn Mincey (Kelly); sister, Jolly Spates; grandchildren, Amber Frailey (Luke), Caleb Laster (Chelsea); Kaitlyn Garret, Braylon Mincey, Halle Bass, Hayden Mincey, Jayse Mincey; three great grandchildren, Ansley Shannon, Maddie Shannon, Brant Frailey; extended family and friends. Family had visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Old Pathway Baptist Church. Funeral service began at 2:00 PM at the church with Rev. Sam Mitchell officiated. Interment followed at Meadoway Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Roger Laster to Old Pathways Baptist Church, 350 S Davis Rd, LaGrange, GA 30241.
