Loeffler Announces $6.1 Million Contract for Mask Production in Georgia Department of Defense Funds Will Help Produce 36 Million Masks Per Month, Create New Jobs

U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) announced the United States Department of Defense has awarded a $6,178,467 contract to Medline Industries, Inc. to increase domestic production capacity of surgical masks. This contract will allow Medline Industries to increase production capacity at its Lithia Springs, Ga. plant to produce 36 million masks per month by May 2021.

“While America has made great progress against the pandemic under the leadership of President Donald Trump, we must remain vigilant in protecting our health care workers, first responders and most vulnerable individuals from this invisible enemy,” Loeffler said. “That starts with ensuring we can produce quality personal protective equipment right here at home. I thank the Department of Defense and President Trump for granting this contract, and I applaud Medline Industries for taking full advantage of Georgia’s pro-business environment to produce these masks at its Lithia Springs location and create over 30 new jobs.”

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Loeffler has taken action to reinforce America’s supply chain independence by:

Introducing the Bring Entrepreneurial Advancements to Consumers Here In North America (BEAT CHINA) Act to incentivize pharmaceutical and medical device and supply manufacturers to relocate to the United States;

Introducing the Securing America’s Medical Supply Chain and Advancing the Production of Life Saving Medicines Act to create a new administration position to negotiate and oversee trade of critical medical supplies; and

Introducing the Regulatory Relief to Support Economic Recovery Act to get barriers out of the way to help small businesses recover from the impact of COVID-19.
