Police & Sheriff’s Reports 12-25-2020

Tuesday morning, about 4:52 a.m., LaGrange Police responded to the 500 block of South Lee Street in reference to an attempted vehicle theft that had just occurred.

Officers arrived and made contact with the complainant, who stated his girlfriend’s uncle saw a short, hefty black male, possibly a juvenile, inside his girlfriend’s black Nissan Altima.

Police checked the Nissan, but the suspect was no longer inside the vehicle.

The complainant stated that the uncle woke him after he saw the young male in the driver’s side, at which point he confronted and startled the offender. The suspect then took off running toward Jackson Street.

The suspect was last seen wearing red leggings, khaki shorts, and a red sweater or jacket.

The complainant advised the car was likely unlocked because the alarm would’ve sounded otherwise. The center console was found open, but the vehicle was otherwise tidy.

Nothing was reported missing from the Nissan.

While investigating the incident, officers inspected other vehicles in the block and noticed one other vehicle, a gray Chrysler 300C, that also appeared to have been rummaged through. The glove compartment was found open, and the vehicle was unsecured.

Police attempted to contact the registered owner by phone, but had no answer.

Both incidents are still under investigation.

Monday evening, about 7 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to Walmart on New Franklin Road in reference to a case of felony shoplifting.

Officers arrived and met with Loss Prevention employees, who stated that they observed a black male, dressed in a blue hooded sweatshirt and a black mask, on surveillance footage with a shopping cart filled with items.

The male was then seen leaving the store through a fire exit with the items and without paying for them.

Loss Prevention was informed by an employee that the employee confronted the male at the fire exit, asking him what he was he was doing. The male reportedly just continued to say excuse me and eventually pushed his way past the employee.

Employees were able to determine that the suspect took multiple laptop computers valued at over $700.

This incident is still under investigation.

Monday evening, about 6:34 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to South Barnard Avenue in reference to the theft of a motorcycle.

Officers arrived and spoke to the complainant, who stated that someone had taken her 2014 orange and black Honda CBR250 motorcycle, valued at $2,000, from the carport in her backyard.

The victim stated she last saw the motorcycle earlier in the morning around 7 a.m. A maintenance worker later told her that he was at her residence around 2 p.m. and did not see the motorcycle in the carport.

This incident is still under investigation.
