Oliver Leon Shelton

Mr. Oliver Leon Shelton, 84, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 at West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Shelton was born December 20, 1936 in Roanoke, AL.  He was employed with NOK before retiring.  Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Waters Shelton, mother, Alie Cosper, daughter, Delaine Thrower, granddaughter, Kimberly Moman-Shelton, and grandsons, Michael Thrower Jr. and Jeffery Thrower. Mr. Shelton is survived by his children, Stanley Shelton (Shelia), James Akery (Teresa), Terry Akery, Michael Thrower Sr., and Arla Akery; grandchildren, Tia Crooks (Michael), James Akery III (Jessi), Chad Moman, and Neal Moman; great grandchildren, Hunter Wood (Cammie), Holden Thrower (Jenna), Annie Crooks (Trystan), Hayden Crooks, Nathan Crooks, Colten Crooks, James Akery IV, Cami Akery, Curtis Akery, and Easton Akery; and 7 great great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held 6:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2021 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange, GA.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service.  The family requests that face masks and social distancing be observed during this time.


Peggy Montgomery

Peggy Montgomery, 86, of LaGrange, GA passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice. Mrs. Montgomery was born July 16, 1934 in Roanoke, Al to the late Arthur Fincher and Gertrude Haynes Fincher. She was the former Owner and Operator of Salon de Elegant and faithful member of Grace Covenant Worship Center. She loved her church family, her work, friends, family and most importantly her Lord. Peggy displayed love in a manner few have seen.  She will be sadly missed by the treasures in her life, Randy, Jackson, and Mara. Peggy is survived by her son, Randy Montgomery; grandchildren, Jackson Montgomery and Mara Montgomery; sister, Mozelle Fincher White; special friends, Debbie Bishop, Lisa Montgomery, Kitty Stribling, and Ken Fields; several other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held at 2:00pm Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Shadowlawn Mausoleum where Pastor Alex Montgomery officiated. Flowers were accepted or donations to West Georgia Hospice for their loving care, may be made in memory of Peggy Montgomery.



Betty Jean Scott

Mrs. Betty Jean Scott, of LaGrange, passed away on January 25, 2021 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice. Mrs. Scott was born to James Foster Prince and Elizabeth Scott Prince in LaGrange, Georgia on April 23, 1937. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Scott; sisters, Lura Wilson, Lavelle Parker, Alice Ann Thompson; brother, Floyd Prince; grandchild, Alex Hernandez. Mrs. Scott is survived by a daughter, Traci Ortiz of Texas; sister, Ruth Maharry; grandchildren, Trey Murray, Kayla Murray, Jasmine Murray; great grandchildren, Lyla Mae Walden, Travis Walden, Jr., Thalia Miranda (all of Texas). Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 1:30 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand Chapel where Minister Don Jackson and Minister Larry Thompson officiated.  Interment followed at Shadowlawn Cemetery.  Family  greeted friend thirty minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.  The service was live-streamed at


Raymond Ellis Landreth

Mr. Raymond Ellis Landreth, of LaGrange, passed away on January 20, 2021. Mr. Landreth was born on July 31, 1928 in Lanett, Alabama to the late Ellis Brooks Landreth and Annie Mae Gilbert Landreth. In addition to his parents, Mr. Landreth was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene Clements Landreth, his second wife, Mary Chaffin Landreth and his third wife, Norma Jean Landreth; brothers, Charles Landreth and Elbert Landreth; sister, Lula Mae Landreth; granddaughter, Ashley Scheiman. Mr. Landreth proudly served his country in the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, retiring from the Christian Church- Disciples of Christ. Survivors include his sons, R. Ellis Landreth of Magnolia, Texas, Terry Landreth of Warner Robins, Georgia, Richard Landreth of Warner Robbins, Georgia, David Landreth of Topeka, Kansas and Joseph Landreth of Thomasville, Georgia; daughters, Evelyn Scheiman of Macon, Georgia and Virginia Waites of LaGrange, Georgia; brothers, Elbert Landreth of Niceville, Florida, Harrel Landreth of LaGrange, Georgia and Hugh Landreth of LaGrange, Georgia; grandchildren, Matthew Scheiman, Nicki Browning, Erik Scheiman, Destiny Sheiman, Brittany McConnell, Justin Scheiman, Bryan Landreth, Jason Landreth, Sara Landreth, Steven Landreth, Christina Chen, Kevin Landreth, Philip Landreth, Bridgette Hise, Daniel Landreth, Michael Landreth, Grace Waits, Ashley Scheiman, Connor Landreth, Shea Landreth and Owen Landreth; great grandchildren, Jocelyn Young, Carson Young, Abigail McConnell, Ethan Chen, Evan Chen, Lily Chen, Gabriel Landreth, Caleb Landreth and Freya Landreth; extended family and friends. Graveside services will be held on January 30, 2021 at 1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time at the Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, Alabama with Pastor David Cross officiating. Rev. Bobby Robinson

Rev. Bobby Robinson, age 88, of LaGrange, received his Heavenly Reward on January 25, 2021. Rev. Robinson was born on August 6, 1932 in Newnan, Georgia to the late Parks Harvey Robinson and Fannie Sue Couch Robinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Jane Robinson Yarbrough and sisters, Mary Alice Robinson Sharp, Barbara Cottle Newbill and Evelyn Robinson Heard. Bro. Bobby proudly served his country in the Unites States Airforce followed by his service in the Army National Guard. He received a Master’s Degree in Theology from the New Orleans Baptist Seminary and was a Minister of the Gospel for over fifty eight years, pastoring churches all throughout the south. A large part of his ministry was serving as Pastor of the Unity Baptist Church here in LaGrange for over thirty years. Survivors include his wife of sixty six years, Margie Jones Robinson; daughters, Vicki Robinson Utley and her husband Mike and Susan Robinson Hornsby and her husband Mike; grandchildren and their families, Leslie Winter, Bobby G. Wells, Nicole DeMooney, Chris Hornsby, Lauren Ramey, Parks Yarbrough and T.J. Yarbrough; great grandchildren, Corbin Woodley, MacKenzie Winter, Sydnie Winter, Lacey Williams, Ben Williams, Bryson DeMooney, Saryn DeMooney, Maris Hornsby, Hendrix Hornsby and Tatum Ramey; honorary daughter, Kathy Hammock; extended family, church families and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Unity Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at the Shadowlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 1:00 PM until service hour. Local Ministers and Pastors that have been touched by the ministry of Rev. Robinson, as well as his best friend, Mr. Gerald Kemp, will serve as honorary pallbearers. His grandsons and great grandsons will have the honor to serve as active pallbearers. Wilbert Bernard “Will” Oubre

Mr. Wilbert Bernard “Will” Oubre, age 95, of LaGrange, passed away on January 25, 2021. Mr. Oubre was born on October 11, 1925 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Wilbert B. and Georgette Elizabeth Wood Oubre. Upon high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy Air Corps at the age of seventeen as an Aviation Machinist. He was promoted to Plane Captain at the age of eighteen and flew the B-24 Liberator, a part of the Photo Reconnaissance Squadron in the Pacific Theater in and around Okinawa, Japan. Following his faithful service to his country during World War II, he worked for many years as a Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service. However, the greatest joy of his working career was working on his family farm. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-three years, Josephine Daniel Oubre; children, Bubba Oubre (Becky), Cynthia Eymard (Gary), Janice Oubre Cowman, Frances Oubre and Melissa Landers; grandchildren, Gary Eymard, Jr. (Nikki), Lisa Eymard, Christopher Eymard (Sara), Thomas Tabor (Rebecca), Will Binion (Mary), Austin Starr (Nikki), Matthew Oubre (Jamie), Daniel Binion, Rachel Binion, Sidney Stroud and Charlie Oubre (Caroline); twenty two great grandchildren; extended family and many friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Rosemont Baptist Church where Pastor Adam Camp and Rev. Max McCord officiated. Interment followed the service at Meadoway Gardens, the land of which was once a part of Mr. Oubre’s farm. Hulett Jack Glover, Jr.

Mr. Hulett Jack Glover, Jr., 76, of LaGrange, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021, at his home. Mr. Glover was born December 25, 1944, in Troup County, son of the late Hulett and Pauline Fant Glover. A resident of Troup County most of his life, he retired as a local driver for Yellow Freight after thirty years of service. He enjoyed golf and woodworking, and was a very creative person who was known to be able to do anything he set his mind to. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Glover of LaGrange; daughter, Lori Lee Crowder of Hogansville; granddaughters, Lori Beth Foster and her husband Jamey Foster of Hogansville, Ashley Crawford and her husband Kenny Crawford of LaGrange; and a great-grandson, Jackson Layne Foster. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, at the graveside in the Greenville Cemetery, with the Reverend Jamie Durand officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Thursday night.


Kathy Tines Pickard

Mrs. Kathy Tines Pickard, 61, of Lanett, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Pickard was born September 2, 1959, at Ft. Riley, KS, daughter of the late James Everett Tines and Faye Henry Tines. She earned her Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration, was employed as an occupational nurse for the Southern Company since 2007, and was previously employed as a nurse at the Carter-Lanier Division of West Point Pepperell. A member of the Alabama Nursing Association, she loved being a nurse, enjoyed arts and crafts, reading, and attending her widows support group. Survivors include her daughter, Lauren Pickard and Russell Nelson of Lanett; son, Jim Pickard of Pensacola, FL; sister, Teresa and Joe Doughtie of Valley; brothers, Everett Tines of Lanett, Eddie and Angela Tines of LaFayette; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Samuel David Pickard, Jr.; and her sister in-law, Angie Tines. The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. (EST), Thursday, January 28, at the graveside in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lanett, with the Reverend Erik Mays officiated. The family received friends from 6 until 8 Wednesday night at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett.
