Sheridan Construction held their official ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday on Greenville Street.

Since January 1, 2021, LaGrange-based Benchmark Contracting has been operating under the Macon-based Sheridan Construction banner following Sheridan’s acquisition of the LaGrange company. It’s a move that Sheridan feels allows for their expansion into the West Georgia area.

LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton also celebrated the acquisition at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

“We’re excited about this new chapter, and the benchmark Sheridan history,” he said, adding that he could “personally attest” to the quality of work done by Sheridan.

“We are so excited for Lyle and for all your team and family,” he continued, speaking of Benchmark’s staff. “Certainly this is a great local business, and it’s just growing and expanding.”

The Mayor then expressed his gratitude to Sheridan for joining the LaGrange community before noting the opportunities the city could bring to Sheridan’s business.

“I know it’s just going to enable y’all to do a lot more building in LaGrange and in Troup County,” Thornton said. “That’s something as you go around, you see that there’s lots of building going on, there’s lots of good things happening.”

The LaGrange Mayor sees more positive growth moving forward.

“I think if we ever get rid of these masks and come out of the COVID pandemic that’s just going to accelerate,” he said. “I’m starting to see light at the end of the tunnel, and I really think that once the vaccine rolls out we’re going to see a resurgence and certainly a lot of activity in our community.”

Noting that LaGrange “is a great place to do business,” Thornton finished by extending a hand to the new Sheridan team.

“The city is a very easy place to do business, and that’s something we always want to continue, so if you have any issues, you know where to find me,” he said.

Benchmark Founder Lyle Daniel expressed his gratitude and excitement over the new merger with Sheridan.

“I want to thank you for your support over the past thirteen years,” he said. “We are super excited about how we’re going to be able to serve the community better under the new name Sheridan.”

Sheridan Construction CFO Shea Smith noted his enthusiasm as well.

“We’re really excited to be working with Lyle and his team from Benchmark,” he said. “We are truly honored that they chose to join Sheridan Construction and be part of our company. We’re really looking forward to building a wonderful reputation in this town and doing some good things, and we look forward to serving the community.”

Smith finished by thanking those in attendance.

“Thank y’all so much for being here and for the warm welcome,” he said. “It’s really great. We look forward to it. Thank y’all very much.”
