Striffler Hamby

John H. Grizzell, 70, of LaGrange, GA passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Grizzell was born July 27, 1950 in Albertville, AL to the late Hubert Clarence Grizzell, Sr. and Pearl Eloise Fann Grizzell Womble. He was a member and past Elder of West Point Presbyterian Church. John was a board member of the Troup County Sportsman’s Club and the West Point Lions Club and was “Mr. Fix-it” to his family. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Norma Susan Hanson and Carol Jean Dumont. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 42 years, Julia C. Grizzell; daughters, Kate Grizzell and Ginny (Jacob) Workman; grandsons, Colton Workman and Sawyer Workman; brothers, James “Dick” (Inger) Grizzell and Hubert “Pete” Grizzell, Jr; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the West Point Presbyterian Church or West Point Lions Club in memory of John C. Grizzell.


Higgins at Hunter Allen Myhand

Mr. Charles William Maddox, Sr.,age 67, of LaGrange, Georgia took his heavenly flight on February 8, 2021. Mr. Maddox was born on July 15, 1953 to the late Jimmy Autry Maddox and Pearl Pettus Maddox of LaGrange, Georgia. Mr. Maddox was known by many names: Gramps, Big “C”, Tuna and Lazarus. Mr. Maddox worked for Roosevelt Institute Warm Springs until he became disabled. His past careers included Dixie Mill, Wall Street Journal and Loftin Fire Extinguishers. Survivors include his wife of forty one years, Susan Seymour Maddox; daughter, Crystal (Wil) Bailey; sons, Adam (Jessica) Maddox and William Maddox; sister, Diana Butler; grandchildren, W.J. William Bailey, Lillie Bailey, Emma Bailey, Elliana Maddox, Abby Bailey, Abby Davis, Grayson Maddox, Autry Maddox; two special brothers in law, Paul Seymour and Johnny (Darlene) Seymour; a very special aunt, Rosetta (Dean) Lawson who introduced Charles and Susan; Steve Brown, Scott Brown, Shane Butler (Rachelle) and family, Deena Muncy, and Ruth Burris; caregivers, Maurita Wheat and Lisa Jones; his dog Peaches. Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1979 and then re-dedicated his life at Faith Baptist Church in 1999. He was an active member of Callaway Baptist Church until his declining health. He loved his University of Georgia Football Team, Wrestling and Gunsmoke. Gramps loved family gatherings, his wife and children, but most of all his eight grandchildren. Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by two grandchildren, his parents, grandparents, Ethel Calhoun Maddox and Albert Maddox, Lonnie Pettus and Hattie Owens Pettus, Dot Kirst, Rufus and Linda Maddox Brown, brother-in-law Rickey Seymour. Family received friends at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter-Allen-Myhand on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 6 p.m. The funeral service was held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11:00 am at the funeral home chapel. The committal service  directly followed the funeral and was held at Meadoway Gardens in LaGrange.


Margie Ann Jones Robinson

Mrs. Margie Ann Jones Robinson, age 83, of LaGrange, passed away on February 8, 2021 at the WellStar West Georgia Hospice. Mrs. Robinson was born on August 5, 1937 in LaGrange, Georgia. She was preceded in death by fourteen days by her husband, Rev. Bobby Robinson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Granger and Eva Mae Hendrix Granger and her daughter, Kimberly Jane Robinson Yarbrough. Mrs. Margie faithfully served as a Pastor’s wife, supporting churches with her husband for over fifty-eight years. They served many churches throughout the south. Over thirty years of their ministry was here in LaGrange at Unity Baptist Church. In addition to caring for the needs of her family as a loving and faithful mother, she was a Registered Nurse. Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Robinson Utley and her husband Mike and Susan Robinson Hornsby and her husband Mike; grandchildren and their families, Leslie Winter, Bobby G. Wells, Nicole DeMooney, Chris Hornsby, Lauren Ramey, Parks Yarbrough and T.J. Yarbrough; great grandchildren, Corbin Woodley, MacKenzie Winter, Sydnie Winter, Lacey Williams, Ben Williams, Bryson DeMooney, Saryn DeMooney, Maris Hornsby, Hendrix Hornsby and Tatum Ramey; honorary daughter, Kathy Hammock; extended family, church families and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 4:00 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand, 506 Hill Street, LaGrange, Georgia, 30241 with Rev. Mike Hornsby and Mike Utley officiating. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Aaron McCollough officiating. Family will receive friends on Friday beginning at 3:30 at the funeral home. Mask and social distancing will be respected at all events. Josephine Billingslea

Mrs. Josephine Billingslea was born July 15, 1927 in West Point, Troup County, Georgia to the late Poke Heard and Liddie Canady Heard. She grew up in the New Harmony Community and received her formal education by the West Point School System. Josephine was united in Holy Matrimony to the late, Harvey E. Billingslea. She was blessed to be Homemaker, and was able to care for her home, husband, and her beautiful children:  Betty, Harvey, Mary, Frankie, Teresa, Wallace, Terry, and Barbara. On Sunday, February 7, 2021; our beloved Mother passed away at Christian City Living Community in Union City, Georgia. Thelma Jean Gray Kimbrough

Mrs. Thelma Jean Gray Kimbrough was born March 23, 1942 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Joshua and Hazel Gray. She was a dedicated member of Central Baptist Church until her death. Thelma attended East Depot Street School and later went to work for Duracell Batteries, where she worked faithfully until she retired in 2002. She was united in Holy Matrimony to her long-time friend and love, Mr. Joe Lee Kimbrough, Sr. in 1958; a union that lasted until his passing in 2005. Their union was blessed with six children:  Natalie, Etrulia, Jacqueline, Angelon, Michelle, and Joe, Jr. Mrs. Kimbrough was very generous, nurturing, and kindhearted. She would open her heart and home to anyone who needed her. If anyone needed a home remedy, she was the one to ask. Her favorite song was, “Ride out your storm”. On Friday, February 5, 2021; our beloved Thelma passed away at WellStar West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Joe, Sr.; she was preceded in death by two daughters:  Natalie Ann Kimbrough Tigner and Jacqueline Denise Kimbrough; one sister, Gwendolyn Gray; and three brothers:  Robert Gray, Elvin Gray, and Charlie Edward Gray. She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters:  Etrulia (Trudy) Smith, Angelon (Dale) Sands, and Michelle Powell; one son, Joe Lee (Susan) Kimbrough, Jr.; eleven grandchildren:  Kimberly Tigner, Brandon Tigner, TiaCory Kimbrough, Jamari Lewis, April Tigner, William Tigner, Taydra Smith, Deshawn Kimbrough, Marquis Kimbrough, Alysha James, and Johnathan Powell; seventeen great grandchildren; three sisters:  Myrtis Carr, Hattie (Johnnie) Adams, and Marion Turner; two brothers:  Elliot Dwight Gray and Carl Von Gray; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
