Pearl Brock Smith
Mrs. Pearl Brock Smith, 90, of Grantville, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Smith was born January 1, 1931, in Leslie County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Ingram and Fannie Morgan Brock. A former resident of Forest Park, she had lived in Grantville for forty years and was a very active member of Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community of Meriwether County. She was employed by Wal-Mart for thirteen years prior to her retirement, and wrote a column for The Meriwether Vindicator known as “Pearl’s Corner.” Survivors include her daughter, Edwina Lynn Williams of Grantville; her son, Leon Clark of Luthersville; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Dixon Smith. A memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 28, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with the Reverend Bill Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday.

Mr. Melvin Downer was born August 30, 1954 to the late Avery Downer and Lillian Downer. He was employed by Atias Company. On Friday, March 19, 2021; Melvin entered Eternal Joy at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Linda and Patricia; and his brother, Bennie. He is survived by his daughter, Trinia (Troy) Scott; two grandsons: Jacques Thomas and Caleb Scott; brother, Marion (Willie Mae) Martin; sisters: Dorothy Maddox and Phyllis Haynes; god-sons: Enan Brooks and E. J. McGhee; god-daughters: Brandi Brooks and Laporchia McCamey; uncle, Roy Lee Brooks; aunt, Carla Morris; his best friend, Patricia Anderson; close friends: Tony Dix and Chris Gates; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
DeUndra LaShawn Johnson
DeUndra LaShawn Johnson was born November 4, 1971 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Dorothy L. Whitaker. He was reared in the loving home of his mother and step-father, Dorothy and Larry Whitaker in Whitesville, Georgia. “Shawn” as he was known, united with Jehovah Baptist Church at an early age and remained until his sudden passing. He was educated in Harris County and graduated from Harris County High School. Shawn furthered his education at LaGrange College and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.
On Saturday, March 20, 2021; Shawn passed away at his home in Whitesville, Georgia. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Larry Whitaker. Survivors include his children: Jacob Johnson, Gabe Duke, Jayden Johnson; sister, LaKeysha Whitaker Jones; niece, Khalia Whitaker; nephew, Kobe Owens; great nephew, Karstin Whitaker; uncle, Freddie Lee (Deborah) Johnson; companion, Michelle Crawl; the “Pine Lake” Family, the Fisher Family; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mary Estella Johnson
Mrs. Mary Estella Johnson was born December 4, 1935 in Hogansville, Troup County, Georgia to the late Albert Thornton and Lizzie Wilburn. Estella retired as a CNA and was previously employed by Royal Elaine. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Charlie Johnson. Mrs. Johnson loved children and served as a Babysitter for many. She was kind, caring, and a great help to anyone in need. She would give of herself and resources to make a difference in someone else’s life. On Sunday, March 21, 2021; Estella passed away at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Charlie; she was preceded in death by her sisters: Rena Beasley, Rosie Pearl Foster, and Nellie Brown; and brother, Buck Thornton. She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons: Charlie (Raquel) and Marvin (Gina); six grandchildren: Virgie, Bernard, Monica, Mark, Michael, and Tristan; three great grandchildren: Amari, Giselle, and Kehlani; sisters: Eva Lee Thornton and Tommy Jean Wilburn; brother, William Thornton; sister-in-law, Frankie Mae Towns; brother-in-law, Lonnie Easter; and an array of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. The Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home. The Service was Streamed Live via Facebook @LakesDunsonRobertson. Interment followed at Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Bishop McGruder was born January 31, 1954 to the late Mozell Williams McGruder and Gilbert Walker. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ and united with Trinity C. M. E. Church. He was a graduate of Manchester High School and furthered his education at West Georgia Technical College, where he received his certification in Automotive Mechanics. Bishop was an entrepreneur in the Automotive Industry. On Monday, March 22, 2021; Bishop departed this life in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Walter Lee Walker, Daniel Lee Walker, Willie Walker, Veonnia Walker, Willie Steve Williams, Robert Lewis McGruder, Lee McKee; sisters: Ruby Kate McGruder and Christine Copeland. He leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Kevin “KJ” McClendon; his brother, Eddie Lee (Zelma) McGruder; sisters: Lucille McGruder, Laura Tucker, Cathrine McGruder, Gloria (Randy) Price, Lela Fox; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Shelton Tonez “Bad Boy” Wilson
Mr. Shelton Tonez “Bad Boy” Wilson was born on October 15, 1973 to the parents of Ms. Lavonne Wilson and Mr. Gary Meadows. He departed his earthly home on March 14, 2021 at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, GA. “Bad Boy”, as he was known, enjoyed his life hanging out with his family and friends. He was known for his dancing moves and loved riding motorcycles. Bad Boy will truly be missed by all who knew him. Shelton received his education in the Troup County Public School System, where he was a member of the 1992 graduating class of Troup High School, LaGrange, GA.
