Troup High Completes Graduation Ceremony after Rain Delay
The Troup High Class of
2021 was finally able walk
in front of friends and family to receive their diplomas after an hour-plus rain delay that interrupted commencement exercises at Callaway Stadium Friday night.
Prior to the ceremony’s start, school ovcials ad vised that inclement weather was possible, but they planned to continue. If they had to stop for rain, guests were asked to return to their cars and wait for further notice via the web.
Things looked fine as
the Troup High School AFJROTC presented colors and Senior Class President Hamilton Bedingfield lead the pledge and ouered a welcome speech.
STAR student Barbara Hart was also able to speak and Salutatorian Haylee Ward shared a poem without delay, but trouble began during Co-Valedictorian Chloe Thames ’ speech.

audience members exited
to find shelter. The ceremo ny was later able to resume around 9:30 p.m.
Thames and Co-Valedictorian Emilee Johnson were then able to complete their
speeches, followed by re marks from Principal Niki Watts.
Eventually, School Su perintendent Brian Shu-
mate certified the graduates, who were able to walk and receive their diplomas as planned.
