Man Charged for Gun Incident and Stolen Firearm Tommy Murphy Stau Writer LaGrange Police have arrested a man on several charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at individuals outside a local motel. Early Tuesday morning, about 4:37 a.m., ovcers with the LaGrange Police Department were called to the Motel 6 on Lafayette Parkway in reference to a subject with a gun. Ovcers arrived and met the complainants, who told police that they were having a disagreement outside room 165, when a man came out of room 165 and asked them to leave from near his room because he was trying to sleep. One of the complainants stated they told him sorry and attempted to walk away, but the male pointed a handgun at her. As she got up, the suspect reportedly threatened to shoot them if they called 911. A second victim con- firmed these statements, adding that they immediately called 911 and walked to the motel ovce to wait for police. Police then made contact with the suspect, Robert Isaiah Smith, inside room 165 and later located a 9 mm handgun hidden behind the television in the room. Police say the gun did not have a magazine or any ammunition. The gun was later determined to have been reported stolen through the Columbus Police Department. As a result of the investigation, Smith, age 32, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriu's Ovce where he was booked into the jail charged with Simple Assault, Pointing a Gun at Another, and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
