Sheriff Woodruff Elected President of Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes Division

Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff was sworn in Tuesday night as the President for the Youth Homes Division of the Georgia Sheriff’s’ Association.

Sheriff Woodruff is a longtime supporter of the GSA Youth Homes though his fundraising efforts for Camp Pineland in Troup County, which provides much needed safe homes for neglected children.

Sheriff Woodruff was sworn in at the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association annual summer conference at Lake Lanier. Woodruff previously served as the board’s Vice President.

The Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes were established during the late 1950’s by Georgia sheriffs due to the growing number of abandoned, neglected, and abused children. The homes were created to give these disadvantaged youth the chance to grow up in a loving and secure home environment.

The Sheriff’s Office Youth Homes have five facilities throughout Georgia, which take care of abused and neglected children. One of those facilities, Camp Pineland, is held right here in Troup County on Youngs Mill Road.

Camp Pineland houses and provides quality child care for young men who are frequently the products of abuse, neglect, or dysfunctional families. The children who live at the camp have had very hard lives, through no fault of their own, and Camp Pineland provides them with opportunities to resolve their personal conflicts, find their identities, and learn proper values as they work toward a lawful, productive and secure future.
