Back 2 School Bash Gives Away 700 Backpacks
On Saturday, several local business and organizations partnered together to celebrate the return of the school year and send off summer with a bang.
The Back 2 School Bash and School Supply Giveaway was held on Saturday at Eastside Park on Niles Street in LaGrange.
The goal of the event was to provide backpacks and other school supplies to those who need them, but event organizers went a step further by turning the endeavor into a family friendly block-party style event with games for kids, music, and free food.
The event was hosted by Falandria Goss Maddox (The Tax Group), Jermaine Maddox (Higher Power Plumbing), Tanya Jones-Cameron (Sparkles Cookies), Leon Childs (Adaptive Growth and Cultural Advancement), Maria Harris (Blessed Realty), Melissa Neal (Pay It Forward) and Montest Cameron (Teens R Us).
A total of about 700 backpacks, along with grade specific school supplies were given away to Troup County residents in need. Most of the bookbags were handed out at the event, but some were left over. Those will be given to local schools and churches for further distribution.
The event featured a game truck, where kids could go inside an air-conditioned truck and play a plethora of video game consoles on big screen TVs. Kids also enjoyed the Foam Palooza, which covered half of the basketball court with suds to play in, but the most popular attraction was the free face painting for kids.
There was also tons of free food and drinks available, with food trucks offering free hotdogs, cookies, ice cream, and snow cones.
DJ Tony provided music for the event and Chris Bolling served as master of ceremonies.
Sponsors for the event include: Diverse Power, New Ventures, Coca-Cola-Columbus, Eleckta Enterprises Inc., BeeTV, A& E Designs by Shree, Sparkles Cookies, LaGrange Fire Station #1, DJ’s Wings, Statewide Mortgage, WBRQ La-Grange.
