Police Investigating Union Street Hit & Run
LaGrange Police are investigating a Hit & Run, where a man crashed into vehicle on Union Street and fled the scene on foot. Thursday afternoon, about 2:55 p.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to the intersection of Union Street at Hines Street in reference to an auto collision with injuries.
Officers arrived and spoke to the driver of black Toyota Camry that had functional damage to the middle driver side.
The driver initially complained of head pain, so paramedics were called, but he refused transport to the hospital.
The driver later explained that he was headed north on Union Street when he observed a tan Honda Accord pulling out of the Pawn Express parking lot near Hines Street. He stated that he tried to swerve to avoid colliding with the car, but the Honda kept going and struck his vehicle on the driver’s side.
The tan Honda Accord was found abandoned nearby with damage to the front end, consistent with the victim’s statements.
The victim told police that after the collision, the other driver kept driving until he reached the church on the opposite side of Pawn Express, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Police were later able to review security video that showed the suspect going in and out of Pawn Express and then failing to yield as he attempted to make a left turn out of the parking lot, striking the Toyota. The male was then seen parking the tan Honda in front East La-Grange Baptist Church and leaving the scene on foot, before returning to lock the vehicle, and finally fleeing the scene for good.
The tan Honda was later determined to be registered to a female out of Lanett, AL, who apparently was not the suspect driver.
The suspect was described as an unknown black male with light skin and a medium build.
As of press time, this incident is still under investigation.
