Tigers are Only Getting Better, Troup Clobbers Columbus, 53-14
Since the beginning of the football season, Troup High has come a long way.
The Tigers have gone from an 0-3 start to backto- back blowout wins over the Spencer Green Wave and Columbus High. In the past two weeks, Troup High has scored 95 points.
Coach Tanner Glisson and the Tigers are back to where they were always supposed to be – winning on a consistent basis. Troup High is ranked 25th in the state in the Class AAAA MaxPreps football poll.
“We are gaining some experience. Everything is coming together – on offense, defense and special teams. I have always liked this team,” replied Glisson.
In their last two games, Troup High has averaged 40 points per game. The Tigers are now hitting on all possible cylinders.
That continued on Thursday night as Troup High hammered Columbus High, 53-14 at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus. The Tigers are now 2-3 on the season and 2-1 in the region.
Troup High is scoring at will, as well. The Tigers found the end zone on offense and defense against the Columbus Blue Devils. As for the defensive scores, Troup High lit up the scoreboard with a Jacob Bailey 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown, as well as a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown from senior linebacker Zy Varner.
“The kids are learning, and we have a lot of momentum,” said Glisson.
Troup High also rushed for almost 300 yards against the Blue Devils. Tiger freshman quarterback Taeo Todd had two rushing touchdowns and one touchdown pass in the game.
The Tigers also got a 20- yard scoring run from senior tailback Anthony Ferguson. Troup High got an interception as well from sophomore linebacker Qua Birdsong in the third quarter.
Troup High will return to Columbus for a region football game against Kendrick next Thursday night with a 7 p.m. start at Memorial Stadium.
